šŸŽ™ļøTj Power: 'Do I want pleasure, or do I want a really happy, fulfilling day?'

Plus, Dr. Tara Swart on using visualization to achieve your goals

šŸŽ™ļøNow on ā€˜On Purposeā€™

For last Fridayā€™s episode of my podcast, I sat down with neuroscientist and author Tj Power to talk about the brain and discuss his new book, The DOSE Effect: Optimizing Your Brain and Body by Boosting Your Dopamine, Oxytocin, Serotonin, and Endorphins. Tj is an expert in those four chemicals, which he calls the ā€œDOSEā€ chemicals, and throughout our conversation, he offers practical tips on how to optimize your life to be the happiest and healthiest version of yourself.

Tj also dives into a discussion about what the brain was designed for versus the technology itā€™s confronted with today. For example, our ancestors used to earn dopamine, whereas now we get it instantly by scrolling on social media. Which, it turns out, leads to addiction, motivation challenges and burnout.

Itā€™s not all bad news, however. Tj offers tons of practical, actionable advice for breaking away from the patterns that are wearing our brains out. We talk about the power of morning routines, cold water therapy, the radical technique he calls ā€œphone fastingā€ and how short breaks throughout the day can reset your brain chemistry.

We all have big goalsā€”owning a home, getting that dream job, meeting the love of your life. But how do you actually get there?

Dr. Tara Swart, neuroscientist, executive advisor and bestselling author of The Source: The Secrets of the Universe, the Science of the Brain, joined me on the podcast to talk about achieving success using a combination of ancient wisdom and modern neuroscience.

Tara walks me through how manifestation works and responds to skepticism of the practice with an action-oriented approach that actually works. She explains neuroplasticityā€”the ability of the brain to adapt and changeā€”and how it can help us transform our mindset to achieve the goals that are meaningful to you, not what everyone else wants from you.

Throughout the episode, we discuss how visualization, mindfulness and communing with nature arenā€™t just ancient practices; theyā€™re scientifically proven tools that help us grow.

If youā€™re trying to tackle big things this yearā€”from building a business to overcoming a great lossā€”you donā€™t want to miss this one.

Negativity is all around us. And it can be a real drain. But the truth is, itā€™s always been this way, and itā€™s always going to be this way. Case in point: Marcus Aurelius wrote about how you should prepare yourself every day to deal with people who are ā€œmeddling, ungrateful, arrogant, dishonest, jealous, and surlyā€ nearly 2,000 years ago!

In this video, I break down the seven types of negative energy that surround us each and every day and actionable tools you can use right now to let it all go and focus on what really matters: your peace, your growth and your happiness. And if you want bonus material, I also wrote about a key way to deal with toxic relationships in this newsletter last week.
