I'm asked all the time how I manage my energy and focus amid everything happening in my life and in the world. The truth is, it starts long before the morning. It starts with how I sleep. When you sleep well, your body doesn’t crave sugar, your mind stays clear, and your patience lasts longer. You have more energy for what matters: your purpose.

Here are the 5 rituals that optimized my sleep and the intelligent system that rewired my mornings:

1. Set Your Sanctuary

Your environment is your first signal to rest. Dim the lights, silence notifications, and let your space cool and quiet. Try to create the perfect microclimate for your body. Just cool enough to cue relaxation, just warm enough to feel held.

2. Align Your Body

Comfort isn’t about luxury. It’s about alignment. Adjust your position until your whole body – from your shoulders to your heels – feels supported. Find that sweet spot where tension melts away and the body remembers how to rest.

3. Train Your Breath

Once you’re settled, tune in to your breathing. Try a slow four-count inhale and six-count exhale. Play soft white or pink noise, or a guided meditation. As your breath deepens, your body follows.

4. Reflect and Refine

At the end of each day, take a moment to notice how you felt in terms of energy, focus, or calm. Health tracking gives you insights from your body about what went well with your sleep and what may need to be adjusted.

5. Rise a Little Wiser

When I was a monk in India, we began each morning by looking up at the sky. That first light resets your body’s natural rhythm and reminds you that rest and wakefulness are part of the same cycle. Step outside, lift your gaze, and let the sunlight tell your body: it’s time to begin again.

This is the one upgrade that totally changed my morning: the Eight Sleep Pod 5 mattress cover. It uses cutting-edge technology to regulate your body temperature throughout the night on both sides of the bed; that way, Radhi and I both get personalized benefits.

I think of it like my own personal sleep coach, because it also tracks my sleep patterns and recovery stats. Since using it, I feel sharper and more productive during the day. In fact, the Pod 5 has been clinically proven to boost daytime energy levels by 34% and provide up to one whole extra hour of quality sleep every night.

On Monday’s episode of the podcast, I got to sit down with writer and relationship coach Quinlan Walther to talk about healthy relationships. Quinlan introduced her “Four C’s of Self-Trust”: curiosity, capacity, compassion, and commitment, as a framework for strengthening your relationship with the self before seeking partnership. If you’ve ever stayed in a relationship simply to avoid being alone, this episode is for you.

It’s time for you to get some good rest. Reply to this email right now and tell me one thing you can do to sleep better this week.

Last week, I challenged you to prioritize one thing to nurture your relationship with your inner genius. Here’s what you said.

Reader Sue responded,

“This week if a great song comes in in the grocery aisle I’m going to sing or dance or both.  I’m also going to take an improv class to hone my thinking and creative side.”

That’s absolutely delightful, Sue! I hope I get to see you at the grocery store sometime to feel that energy.

Reader Kevin said,

“I am going to spend more time around positive people like yourself. People that left me up, not drag me down.”

The people you surround yourself with make such a difference in your day-to-day feelings. This is a great idea, Kevin. I’m rooting for you.
