Last year I was invited to deliver Princeton's Commencement speech, and in my speech, I shared a quote from the Buddha that has stayed with me for years:
I don’t meditate because of what I gain. I meditate because of what I lose.
I've prioritized mindfulness for a long time, so I know firsthand the profound benefits of meditation. But even if you have never meditated, this truth can still apply.
For many of us, we have been conditioned to chase… chase a job, a title, a salary, a person, a home. Those things matter deeply, and if you feel called to pursue them, you absolutely should.
But I also invite you to be just as ambitious about what you release as what you pursue.
Losing the hunger for approval, the yearn for comparison, the guilt for resting, the fear of self-expression… releasing these expectations and beliefs can be just as important, even more important, than chasing milestones and accolades.
As you go about your week, I encourage you to be mindful of how to gain with intention, release with courage, and trust in what remains.
If today’s message resonated with you, reply and let me know.
With love,
Jay ♥️

Most creators spend years building an audience on platforms that own it. The reach is real. The relationship isn't. One algorithm change and the people who chose you stop seeing you.
A newsletter is different. Your list is yours. Every subscriber is earned and stays earned. And on beehiiv, the tools to grow it, monetize it, and own it completely are built in from day one.
