Peace isn’t found, it’s made inside you

Plus, Harvard Psychologist Matthew Nock poses questions that could help save a life.

On September 21st, the United Nations recognizes the International Day of Peace. A holiday intended to remind us that every human being deserves peace.

Now, I don’t need to tell you that there are people around the world who are suffering.

What we rarely talk about is peace as a daily practice; something we wake up and choose, not just something we hope the world will hand us.

I’m talking about something fundamental. I’m talking about creating peace within yourself.

You might say, “But Jay, I feel bad trying to feel peaceful inside when there’s so much pain outside.” But here’s the thing: the pain outside is because of the pain inside.

Let me repeat that.

The pain outside is because of the pain inside.

Do you get into arguments and fights when you’re feeling peaceful or not peaceful?

Do you create challenges for yourself and others when you’re feeling peaceful or not peaceful?

Do you cause problems when you’re feeling a lot of pain, or when you’re pain-free?

The pain out there is all the result of pain inside.

How 433 Investors Unlocked 400X Return Potential

Institutional investors back startups to unlock outsized returns. Regular investors have to wait. But not anymore. Thanks to regulatory updates, some companies are doing things differently.

Take Revolut. In 2016, 433 regular people invested an average of $2,730. Today? They got a 400X buyout offer from the company, as Revolut’s valuation increased 89,900% in the same timeframe.

Founded by a former Zillow exec, Pacaso’s co-ownership tech reshapes the $1.3T vacation home market. They’ve earned $110M+ in gross profit to date, including 41% YoY growth in 2024 alone. They even reserved the Nasdaq ticker PCSO.

The same institutional investors behind Uber, Venmo, and eBay backed Pacaso. And you can join them. But not for long. Pacaso’s investment opportunity ends September 18.

How to create peace inside

Creating peace starts with you. Only once you feel peace can you start to make a peaceful impact on the world.

Try This: Gandhi said, “Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony.” Think about your life and your values. Are you living them? What are you thinking that you’re not saying? What are you doing that you’re not thinking about? What are you saying that you’re not doing? The closer you can get to living in alignment with your values, the more peaceful you will be.

That’s going to involve doing something that might be hard at first: telling the truth. So much pain and challenge come from lying. Truth has a way of lightening the heart, even when it’s hard to share.

One last bit of advice on creating a peaceful life – start your day off with peace. So many of us start our day by looking at our phones – a guaranteed way to spike our stress. Instead, take it easy. Create a morning routine that gives you what you need to be your best.

If you want more advice on how to create peace in your life, I recorded a podcast episode about this back in 2021.

Internal peace is extremely difficult to access when you’re struggling mentally. On Monday’s episode of the podcast, I spoke with the Harvard psychologist and expert on suicide prevention, Dr. Matthew Nock, to discuss one of the most urgent and misunderstood challenges of our time. We discussed common myths about suicide, and how it’s often about escaping overwhelming pain.

We talked about the factors that shape risk, uncovering why men are more likely to die by suicide, why adolescence is so vulnerable, and how isolation later in life can intensify the struggle. Something everyone needs to know how to do is know how to talk about suicide without fear. This episode is essential.

Note: this episode discusses suicide, self-harm, and mental health struggles. Please take care when listening/watching.

Last week, I challenged you to tell me your version of success.

Reader Sandy said,

“A year from now my version of success would be to be debt-free.

Right now I'm going through some financial hardship, and I'm out of a job, so being able to pay off my debt and to be able to take care of myself would be my ultimate success!”

That’s a beautiful goal, Sandy. I am rooting for you.

Reader Jyothi responded,

Waking up refreshed every day without sleep deprivation, no pains in the body, no complaints to family members about my health and pains will be my biggest success. Making time for my exercise/ yog,a whether it’s 45 min, 10 mins, or just 5 mins of breathing exercis,e but I wanted to do it for myself!”

I wish you the best of luck in feeling good in your body.
