Joy cannot enter a life that leaves little space for wonder. Wonder cannot enter a life that leaves little space for play.

In Hindu philosophical tradition, there is a concept called lila, often translated as ādivine playā. It suggests that our lives arenāt meant to be a series of tests, but rather a series of spontaneous, joyous acts where unexpected turns serve a higher purpose.
Think about how you approach playing a board game with close friends, or how a child builds a sandcastle.Ā
When you play a board game, you don't give up the moment you draw a bad card, land on a penalty square, or lose a turn. Donāt you usually adjust your strategy and keep playing? And when a wave knocks down the sandcastle that a child is building, they usually just laugh, and then build something new.Ā
In both of these scenarios, the setback is not a personal test from life. The setbacks are seen as part of the fun⦠a necessary twist that makes the game worth playing.
Sometimes we can get so focused on the destination that we lose out on the joy of the journey. When your morning routine gets disrupted, or a project doesn't go as planned, what if you viewed it not as a personal failure, but as a twist in the game?
When you shift from seeing life as a burden to seeing it as lila, you realize you don't have to control every outcome to appreciate its beauty.
