Welcome to Day 1 of May Meditation!
There is something about the way the sun shines and how the air starts to feel a little warmer in May that makes me want to clear out the mental clutter. When I was a monk, we viewed the change of seasons as a natural invitation to reset our internal compass.
This is the perfect time of year to ask: “What do I want to carry into the summer, and what am I ready to leave behind?”
Whether you’ve been practicing stillness for years or you’ve never quite managed to keep your eyes closed for more than a minute, I’d love for you to join me for a special meditation challenge this month. I know how hard it can be to stay consistent when the world feels busy, but that is exactly why a mediation practice is so important.
When you meditate, you aren't just sitting still… you are teaching your nervous system to shift out of constant high-alert mode to a state of rest. It improves your focus, helps you navigate challenges, and keeps you grounded in the present moment.
Day 1 Practice:
Today, I invite you to find a few minutes – right after reading this newsletter could be a great time – to sit without any distractions and focus on your breath.
That might look like just paying attention to each inhale and exhale, or even imagining a soft white light moving into the body with every breath in, and back out with every exhale.
If you can only do it for 1 minute, that’s great. If you can do it for 15 minutes, that’s great, too. The point for today is just to carve out time to sit in silence. Sometimes, meeting yourself in the moment is the hardest part, so we’re easing into this.
If today is your first time meditating (or if you’ve been practicing for a long time and could use a refresh of the basics), I’ve put together a Meditation 101 Workbook that outlines 3 foundational principles that can help you stay connected to meditation, one breath at a time.
That’s it for today! I’ll meet me back here tomorrow for Day 2 of my May Meditation challenge!
Let’s make this month a beautiful recommitment to our own inner peace and see what starts to bloom.
With love,
Jay ♥️
