Today’s Wisdom
Shift your focus to finding the right person to expanding the world you live in.
Read time: 5 minutes.
This is your permission to pause and take a little time for yourself.
If you crave a romantic relationship but rarely cross paths with new people, even the most profound connections won’t have the chance to bloom. Meaningful relationships begin when you intentionally create opportunities for them to happen. You can be emotionally ready to invite someone else into your life, but if you don’t design your days to allow for new interactions to happen, you decrease your chances of finding love.
Today I’m sharing 5 shifts to redefine how you approach meeting your person:
1. Understand attraction grows over time: Through the mere exposure effect, familiar people naturally become more attractive. Become a regular at a local cafe or running group instead of expecting a 90-minute first date to predict your future.
2. Leverage your network: We often meet life-changing connections through acquaintances – a coworker, a neighbour, a friend of a friend – rather than our closest inner circle.
3. Separate standards from preferences: High standards for kindness, emotional maturity, and integrity can be non-negotiables, but rigid preferences regarding physical height or exact careers often block genuine compatibility.
4. Remove pressure from first dates: Shift your mindset from evaluating if someone is your forever person to simply asking if you’d enjoy one more conversation with them.
5. View rejection as data, not damage: A mismatch of personalities isn't proof you're unlovable. It's data that narrows your path toward the right fit.
The right person cannot cross a path you never build. So step outside your routine, take small risks to expand your world, and give your future relationship the chance to find you.
Love,
Jay ❤️
What feels hardest about dating right now?
In this episode of On Purpose, I explore why modern dating feels so exhausting. I also discuss the psychology behind attraction, offering practical ways to build a life that naturally invites love in. If you're feeling burned out by the search for "the one," this conversation is an invitation to release rigidity, handle rejection as data, and find hope for moving forward.
