New Episode of On Purpose out now.

If fear of failure has ever played a role in your life, you won’t want to miss this episode. Actress and producer Camila Mendes joins me for an honest conversation about the hidden cost of perfectionism, the pressure behind success, and what it took to finally choose herself.

Having high standards pushes us to grow, to master our craft, and to take pride in what we put into the world.

But there is a fine line between healthy effort and unhealthy perfectionism.

👉🏾 Healthy effort says, "I want to do my best, and I’m willing to try."

👉🏾 Unhealthy perfectionism says, "I’m not enough." Or, "If I don't do this flawlessly, I am a failure."

Here’s the thing: perfectionism is largely rooted in protecting the ego — tying our self-worth to our output instead of our effort.

When we protect the ego too intensely, every mistake we make gets interpreted as a flaw in our character. But the truth is: every ounce of effort builds more self-worth.

Trying is the key to succeeding.

So ask yourself: “Did I show up and give my best effort today, or did fear of failing hold me back?”

I encourage you to celebrate every small win, including the most important win of all: trying.

With love,
Jay ♥️

Today’s Takeaway

Holding yourself back until conditions are flawless only keeps your potential hidden. Healthy effort pushes you to master your craft, while unhealthy perfectionism whispers that you are only as valuable as your last success. Give yourself permission to try and to make mistakes. It all matters.
