If I asked you to name the hardest year of your life, would one come to mind?

Most of us have a year like that. A stretch of time that seems to take up more space than all the others. A year we still think about, or use to explain who we were before it happened and after.

→ Before I knew.
→ Before I lost that job.
→ Before I made that decision.

→ After I found out.
→ After I walked away.
→ After I finally said yes.

In the moment, we are just trying to get through the day. And yet, the very fact that we can look back and name that year means we are no longer standing inside the moment. We can see it from the outside — what it changed, what it took, and who we became as a result.

That is true resilience: reaching the point where you can look back and understand how that year became part of your story, and how you found your way through it, even when you could not yet see where it was leading.

With love and gratitude,
Jay ❤️
