Today’s Wisdom
Living your truth matters far more than maintaining comfortable illusions for others.
Read time: 4 minutes.
This is your permission to pause and take a little time for yourself.
When people in our lives assign us roles – whether out of insecurity, fear, or the need for control – we may accept those labels without question, especially if they were assigned to us as children. We play the part we were given and adjust our behaviour to keep the peace.
But, I know what you’re thinking: Jay, I can’t just rip the label off. I’ve played the role for too long.
I get it. And I want to offer a different perspective today.
Finding your own voice and becoming more of who you really are doesn’t happen overnight, but it can happen a little bit more every day.
Stepping out of those assigned roles is a slow process that requires our full commitment and courage, especially when the people you love benefit from you staying exactly as you were. Those people may resist when you stop following their script, but your responsibility is to live your truth, not to maintain a comfortable illusion for someone else.
The longer you become who others say you are, the less familiar you become to yourself. You do not need permission from anyone to redefine who you are.
Love,
Jay ❤️
Where do you find yourself still playing a role for other people?
Collin Gosselin opens up about what it was really like growing up in the spotlight of Jon & Kate Plus 8, sharing his personal account of life behind the camera. He recounts his experiences with family isolation, allegations of physical abuse, time spent in a basement room, and his twenty-month stay in an institution he says he never needed to be in. Collin also details how a smuggled note led to a reunion with his father, how he is working to rebuild his life today, and why he is finally choosing to speak publicly about his past.
