Dear Wise Reader,

I’m Anna, and I’m the Editor-in-Chief of The Daily Wisdom.

Like Jay, who learned early in monk training that mornings make the mind, I’m a big believer in the power of “first things.” As an editor and storyteller, and as a Certified Ayurvedic Health Consultant, I’ve seen this truth hold up again and again: what you choose first each morning sets the tone for everything that follows.

Done consistently, those “first things” don’t just change your day. They change your life. That’s why we aim to bring you something meaningful each morning, something that calms and steadies you before the world gets loud.

But Ayurveda adds one more layer that matters here: it’s not only about what you take in, but about what you digest. (Not just food, but impressions. Conversations. Content. Information. Stress. Joy.) The mind takes in a lot. Without a moment to process it and reflect, even “good” input can become mental clutter instead of lived wisdom.

That’s the why behind my new Monthly Wisdom Recap.

Starting today, at the end of each month, I’ll send you a grounded zoom-out—from my perspective: the ideas that truly landed, the moments you responded to most, and a brief look behind the scenes at what Jay and the team are exploring and building. Think of it as the digestion point: a pause where you integrate what mattered, release what didn’t, and step into the next month clearer and steadier.

For my first recap of the year – January was a blur, right? – I want to start by sharing a question I asked the team this month:

What is wisdom, really?

(No Googling, no AI, no dictionaries. Just… in your own words.)

Here are a few of the responses:

Sam on our media team answered, “Wisdom is the accumulation of knowledge that’s been applied through lived experience. Knowledge that’s been made personal.”

Taylor on our editorial team replied, “I think for me personally it means thoughtful observation drawn from, quite literally, anything.”

Kavit, our CEO, said, “Great question. Two definitions come to mind: knowing what’s right and what’s wrong, and wisdom as knowledge that helps me live in alignment through thought, speech, and action.”

Isobel, who supports production, said, “Using the insight, experiences, and ideas you’ve learned or discovered to live a more aligned life.”

Leonor in Customer Support shared, “Wisdom enables one to have discernment.”

Gloria in graphic design offered, “For me, it’s learning and growing, pursuing being better than yesterday, and acknowledging both the good and bad that came before.”

All incredible and insightful thoughts.

When I look across these definitions (and even if you do end up Googling or checking the dictionary later yourself), you’ll notice something interesting. Many definitions of wisdom are not just about wisdom as a noun… or a thing.

Wisdom is insight in action.

It’s taking what you’ve learned and actually doing something with it

When I think of Jay, and everything he’s built in his career, and more recently with the launch of Ask Jay LIVE, Messy Love, Perfect Strangers, and the rebrand and launch of this daily newsletter, I see that in real time. His wisdom is always moving from real learning to real life.

As you read this month’s highlights below, I encourage you to reflect on this in your own world, too. How does the application of real lessons, turning into lived experience, shape how you define wisdom?

And how does Jay’s wisdom each morning shape how you define your day?

I welcome you to reply to this email and share your thoughts.

I’m genuinely privileged to do this work, and deeply honoured to have you here. Thank you, as always, for reading, for responding, and for being part of the wisdom we bring into the world.

See you next month,
Anna xo
