Today’s Wisdom

Releasing heavy expectations helps us stop trying to carry every outcome on our own.

Read time: 4 minutes.
This is your permission to pause and take a little time for yourself.

When life throws unexpected hardship our way, we sometimes behave in ways we normally wouldn’t — purely out of necessity or survival. We often take on heavy expectations, putting too much pressure on ourselves to fix problems, protect others, or make sure everything turns out the way we want.

In the process, we can be overly hard on ourselves and, without meaning to, place that same pressure on the people we love. In the moment, this might feel like strength or control, but it’s more often just an unchecked response to stress or fear.

It may not be right, but it doesn’t have to be carried around as “wrong” forever, either.

This weekend, give yourself a gift of grace: acknowledge that you were simply working with the tools and awareness you had at the time.

And then, make things right.

Apologizing to someone who may have been unintentionally caught up in your behaviour also helps you extend forgiveness to the earlier version of yourself who was just trying their best.

With love and grace for you today,
Jay ❤️
