Today’s Wisdom

Our defense mechanisms can make us dismiss people who are just seeking connection.

Read time: 4 minutes.
This is your permission to pause and take a little time for yourself.

It has nothing to do with who they are. It has everything to do with what we’ve been carrying within ourselves. When someone attempts to reach out, it’s easy to let old defense mechanisms take over. We brush off a moment of bonding, dismiss a sincere question, or project our own unresolved hurt onto someone who was only trying to create a connection.

Strength can look like boundaries.

But, I invite you to consider this as well: strength is also noticing where you’ve closed your heart and choosing to soften instead. Over the next couple of days, allow yourself to step back from the urge to protect, defend, or fix, and use this time to reflect on where you might be holding onto old projections.

Moving forward with a lighter heart changes how you show up for yourself and everyone around you.

Love,
Jay ❤️

Apology Tour is a new series where I ask strangers around the world one simple question: "Who do you want to apologize to?"

Apology #14 is out now, and it's where you'll hear Russell apologize to his sister-in-law for laughing in her face the first time she tried to really know him.
